Fall 2008 Workshops:
Personal Statement Workshop
(Suggested for college-bound Seniors)
Presented by: SONYA
Drafting the personal statement is often one of the scariest parts of applying to college. Admission boards use personal statements as an opportunity to get to know students beyond what their transcripts and test scores demonstrate. In our Personal Statement Workshop, Sonya will teach students how to use their unique life story, extra curricular work, and academic experiences to compose an organized, thoughtful and intriguing essay that is both a reflection of who they are and a compelling picture for the admission committees. This small-group workshop is designed to help students explore their past learning opportunities, reflect on how these experiences affected them and craft an essay that highlights distinctive qualities. Our Personal Statement Workshop will take the student from thinking about what to write to having a drafted, reviewed, edited, and finalized version of their personal statement, ready to submit. Bringing insight and good humor to all of her work with students, Sonya looks forward to a fun and meaningful workshop! Sonya studied Writing and English Literature at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and has worked as an educator for over seven years. Maximum enrollment: 9 students.
