University Tutoring Service was founded in Ravenna by a school teacher with a vision for quality and meaningful one-to-one tutoring relationships. UTS moved near University Village in 1985 and to its current location in 2007. From 1993 to 2000, UTS was operated by Linda Jacobs, college counselor at The Northwest School, who continues to operate College Placement Services. David Black, former tutor for and director of UTS, originally joined the staff as a teacher at Lakeside in ‘85 and was very dedicated to his position until his retirement in 2000.

Diane Carney, current director of UTS, joined the staff as a tutor for the 1996–97 school year and returned again in 1998. Upon Mr. Black’s retirement, Diane took ownership with the goal of ensuring that the quality services UTS has provided for so many years will continue. Since the transition to new ownership in 2000, Diane’s energy has revitalized our space, our services, and our staff.

We are proud of our great reputation in the schools and community. We obtain the majority of our new students through referrals from school counselors and UTS students and parents who become fans and referral sources. We appreciate that the good word about our services continues to spread through the community and schools.
